Lunaphore Technologies COMET system is designed to exploit the full capabilities of spatial biology using a fully automated sample-in insight-out approach to integrate staining and imaging in one instrument.
The Key Tech team was engaged to design the COMET’s enclosure around predefined staining and imaging assemblies in conjunction with improving the reagent handling use experiences. A team of industrial designers and mechanical engineers collaborated with Lunaphore to conceptualize and design the optimal solution for laboratory users and environments. Concepts progressed from 2D sketches through to functional prototypes used for design validation. Integral to the enclosure was providing full access to all required reagents and waste locations, to do this Key Tech designed a lift-assisted, multi-hinged door that minimizes space disruption and interference with potential lab shelving.
Within the reagent module Key Tech designed and improved a sample tube loading/unloading scheme, which introduced a rack of tubes to reduce the number of user steps required during device workflows. Full-scale functional prototypes of both the enclosure design and reagent handling system were delivered to Lunaphore for further integration of subassembly components.
