As the college recruiting season kicks off again, we’re taking a moment to look back and celebrate our amazing summer interns. An internship at Key Tech gives aspiring engineers and designers the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, tackle real technical challenges, and gain hands-on experience alongside our team. We loved having them as part of Key Tech this summer, and judging by the projects and experiences they shared during our staff meetings, they had a pretty great summer too! Here are a few highlights and takeaways from each of our interns.

Lilly Fantuzzo, Mechanical Engineering intern from Virginia Tech

This summer I worked on:
Testing, building, designing, and modeling different medical device components. I got to experience a lot of the work a full-time ME at Key Tech would be doing, and I learned a lot.

My favorite assignment was:
Getting to run my own testing. It was so cool to work through the different challenges I faced and see how changes I made produced new (and hopefully good) results.

Something I will remember about Key Tech:
Liz! Our administrative assistant and all her wise good-morning advice. Also, the office dogs and how they appear just when something becomes frustrating to help you ground yourself.

Baltimore is:
Full of amazing bookstores. To encourage my own exploration of the city, I set a goal to visit as many bookstores as possible. With this challenge, I was able to visit many neighborhoods and get to experience the full charm of Baltimore!

Michael Kim, Computer Engineering intern from the University of Maryland

This summer, I worked on:
Building GUI plugins for Key#, developing embedded firmware, implementing serial communication, creating WiX installers, working with C# and WPF, and translating datasheets into working solutions!

My favorite assignment was:
Developing embedded firmware. I really enjoyed digging into device datasheets, understanding their communication protocols, and then bringing everything to life in the real world.

Something I’ll remember about Key Tech:
The amazing people and the fun environment.

Baltimore is:
A great city with amazing food!

Natalie Venginickal, Electrical Engineering intern from the University of Maryland

This summer I worked on:
An Altium schematic and PCB Layout, PCR Thermocycler rapid prototyping and testing, peripheral testing before a project’s system integration, and component and cable creation.

My favorite assignment was:
Working on a PCR Thermocycler fixture and learning how to use Python for data analysis. I had the chance to present my testing findings to our Thermocycler client, and I learned a lot about communicating technical conclusions to an external team!

Something I will remember about Key Tech:
The sheer variety of projects in progress at any given time. Also, the great people and dogs!

Baltimore is:
Full of delicious food. Shout-out to Fed Hill Park, which is perfect for lunch break walks!
