2021 Spring New Hire Introductions

Say hello to the new team members who joined us this spring at Key Tech!

Alycia Storch, Mechanical Engineer
Graduated from: Cornell University
Hometown: Maplewood, NJ

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I picked Key Tech because it’s a company that cares about both its employees and its work. It was clear that Key Tech was made up of kind people who were passionate about the meaningful work they do and I wanted to be one of them!

What do you like best about Key Tech?
Everyone at Key Tech is so supportive and happy to help with any questions I may have, technical or not. I am so appreciative that no one hesitates to help, and it has been such a big help with making my transition a smooth one.

Favorite project work so far?
I have had the opportunity to design a few parts for testing and had them 3D printed. It has been so exciting and rewarding to see my designs come to life and work with them!

What are you excited about in the next year?
I am so excited to continue to learn from the wealth of knowledge at Key Tech! I have already learned so much in my first few weeks here. I appreciate that at Key Tech there are always opportunities to expand your knowledge both within and outside of your own discipline.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Fabric! I love to sew and, while my fabric stash is growing faster than I can go through it, an unlimited supply would be awesome.

Dillon Jones, Engineering Technician
Graduated From: Virginia Tech
Hometown: Marriottsville, MD

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I started working at Key Tech as a contractor through a staffing agency and it quickly became the most enjoyable job I’ve ever had.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
The people, everyone is friendly and easy to get along with.

Favorite project work so far?
All of the projects I have worked on have been enjoyable but one that stands out was building a few power supply systems for a client. It was a smaller project but it was the first project I was involved in completely from beginning to end.

What are you excited about in the next year?
I am excited to work on different projects and interact more with people at Key Tech.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
UTZ salt and vinegar chips.

Alana Laferriere, Electrical Engineer
Graduated from: Virginia Tech
Hometown: Calgary, Canada

Why did you pick Key Tech?
It fit really well with what I was looking for – a small company with great culture that puts its employees first. I like that the work Key Tech does has a positive impact, and the day-to-day is design work that’s relevant to my interests.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
My favorite things about Key Tech are the same as the reasons I came to work here: great culture and interesting design work.

Favorite project work so far?
I can’t decide! Either designing electrical schematics or soldering PCBs.

What are you excited about in the next year?
I’m looking forward to taking the theoretical knowledge from school and applying it to real products! But I’m mostly excited to bribe all the dogs with treats.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Food to distribute to people in need.

Dawn Kahler, Office Manager

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I had one other job offer at the same time as Key Tech. I had a spreadsheet of 22 items to compare the two offers. Key Tech won 20-2, and then ended up winning the other two on my first day! I like the people, the amazing building, how thorough the interview process was, how organized they are with processes and procedures, QuickBooks & lots of spreadsheets, and of course the dog-friendly office.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
I like the flexibility and trust to work from home and choose my own hours, which in turn makes everyone dedicated and loyal to their work, one another, and the company. It’s a win-win for everyone. I also like the mentoring relationship and how much Key-Tech values taking care of their employees and making this a fun place to be and work.

Favorite project work so far?
Working with new employees and all that it takes to get them on board here.

What are you excited about in the next year?
I’m excited to be involved in the complete bookkeeping cycle, including payroll. I enjoy seeing the big picture from start to finish.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Dinner and game nights with our young adult children.
