2020 certainly has been an interesting year! Just imagine starting a new job in the middle of a global pandemic! That’s just what our seven brave new team members did recently over Zoom! We all look forward to celebrating in person with them soon!

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I’ve always wanted to do hands-on work, and most everything at Key Tech is exactly that. The work is all the more fun when surrounded by friendly, supportive coworkers.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
My favorite things about Key Tech are also the reasons I chose to work here – interesting work and fun people!

Favorite project work so far?
I did some in-depth testing on a new sensing concept and discovered some interesting and useful capabilities. It was a fun challenge to design tests I could run in my living room, and presenting my findings to the client was a great experience.

What are you excited about in the next year?
At work, I’m excited to work on a project from start to finish, from concept generation to functional testing. Outside of work, I’m excited to explore Baltimore!

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Apples and peanut butter – Two things, I know, but I can’t have one without the other.

Ryan Spurney, Computer Engineer (middle row right)
Graduated from: North Carolina State University
Hometown: Wilmington, NC

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I interned at Key Tech back in 2018 and really enjoyed the welcoming work environment and variety of cool projects. I was completely sold by the end and I’m excited to be back!

What do you like best about Key Tech?
Key Tech does a great job prioritizing its employees. A lot of effort is put toward creating a work environment that is fun and positive but still challenging and rewarding.

Favorite project work so far?
Brainstorming ways to make a disposable medical product ‘smart’ and improve patient care. Throwing everything at the wall and then selecting down to the best ideas has been a fun learning experience.

What are you excited about in the next year?
Coming back to the office!

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Chips & salsa

Jeremy Booth, Computer Engineer (middle row center)
Graduated from: University of Maryland, College Park
Hometown: Baltimore

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I picked Key Tech for two big reasons: 1) The projects I worked on during my internship were engaging and helped me grow as a software engineer, and 2) The people here are wonderful! Not only do I enjoy the community and culture they’ve cultivated, but everyone is also amazingly talented and willing to help.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
My favorite aspect of Key Tech by far is that they’ve given me the freedom and resources to pursue fields of work and study that interest me.

Favorite project work so far?
Developing a novel Ct algorithm.

What are you excited about in the next year?
As I’m entering the exploratory phases of a new project, I’m excited to be able to collaborate, ask questions, and ultimately make decisions that will influence the overall design of a product.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Indestructible dog toys. My dog keeps destroying his toys, and nothing we’ve tried has worked.

Raghuraj (Ravi) Chauhan, Mechanical Engineer (middle row left)
Graduated from: Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech
Hometown: Fairfax, VA

Why did you pick Key Tech?
It seemed like a cool company doing really impactful work. Getting to work on a wide array of projects rather than a small catalog like other development companies was a large draw as well. Meeting the employees and seeing the culture of the company during the interview process sealed the deal for me.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
I really enjoy the culture of the company and how much it values its employees. The dogs in the office is also a huge plus.

Favorite project work so far?
My favorite project so far is the one I’m currently working on. I enjoy working in automation and this project requires that many different processes become automated.

What are you excited about in the next year?
In the next year I am excited for a return to normalcy and hopefully getting to enjoy the office space and explore Baltimore.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
I would love an unlimited supply of coffee.

Andrea Bowdon, Mechanical Engineer (top row center)
Graduated from: NC State University
Hometown: Cary, NC

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I’ve worked here before! I was really impressed at my internship last summer by the projects and work environment, and I wanted to come back.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
Definitely the people. It’s great to come in straight out of college and see that even people who’ve been here for over a decade are still passionate about their jobs.

Favorite project work so far?
I just finished a prototype for some lab testing equipment.  The process of designing something and then seeing it come back as machined or 3D printed parts is so exciting. Especially when you put it all together and it works!

What are you excited about in the next year?
Learning more about the design process as a whole, especially at the interfaces of mechanical and electrical or computer design.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Diet coke – it’s my caffeine source of choice.

Colby Johnson, Mechanical Engineer (top row right)
Graduated from: Cornell University
Hometown: Glastonbury, Connecticut

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I knew I wanted to be involved with products that make a real difference in the world. Also, I wanted to be surrounded by creative and ambitious people that were just as invested in having fun as they were in working hard. Key Tech was the perfect mix of these two things!

What do you like best about Key Tech?
Key Tech has the best people! Probably a generic answer, I know, but it’s true. Everyone is so approachable no matter how long they have been here and every single person I’ve met has jumped at the opportunity to lend a helping hand. It made my first few weeks here so much better knowing that I could ask anyone for help. Having an immediate and strong support system makes working here so amazing.

Favorite project work so far?
I have learned so much and I never thought I would get to assemble custom machinery starting in my second week! It has been a great introduction into the fast paced world of Key Tech projects.

What are you excited about in the next year?
I’m really excited about working on my next project. It’s got more focus on product design than device functionality and I’m ready to dive into the world of consumer products. Plus, I’ve always wanted to design a tech gadget of sorts. I’m also excited that we are starting to go back to the office! I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in person and being able to easily brainstorm with people nearby.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Sheet music! I’ve played the viola for 13 years and I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of learning new songs.

Anna Piranian, Office Manager (bottom row)
Graduated from: University of Maryland at College Park and George Washington University
Hometown: Oreland, PA

Why did you pick Key Tech?
I greatly admired its professional approach to being an incredibly successful company that not only embraces individuality in its employees but truly values and respects them, as well. That’s not often seen anymore in successful companies that care more about productivity than about staff.

What do you like best about Key Tech?
Its philosophy that having a level of fun in its environment only enhances productivity – employees want to work hard to exceed expectations when the mood is positive and they feel supported.

Favorite project work so far?
Transitioning to more digital document solutions.

What are you excited about in the next year?
Getting to know everyone better and contributing to Key Tech’s continued success.

If you could have an unlimited supply of something what would that be?
Pets! 😊
